re: George Baum

George C. Baum (1884 - 1974), was born in Sweetser (Grant County), Indiana. His family was in the grain business which George ran until 1919. In 1924 he purchased a lumber yard and grain elevator in Akron, Indiana. George always had a strong interest in art and in 1935 decided to begin painting. He studied with Homer Davidson and Curry Bohm. In 1958 George and his wife moved to Nashville, Indiana. George was a member of the Brown County Art Guild and was represented by their gallery. George Baum participated in many regional shows including The Hoosier Salon (1956, 1957, 1960, 1961, 1963, 1964), the Northern Indiana Artists Club and the Indiana Artists Club. It's interesting to note that Elizabeth Baum (b. 1914), George's daughter, was a well known painter whose career began before her father's.
