re: Louis William Bonsib

Louis Bonsib grew up in Indianapolis, received a BA from Indiana University and began working in 1918 as an engraver for the Indianapolis Engraving Company. He left after seven years and founded his own printing and advertising company in Fort Wayne, IN. After serving for the Army Air Corp. in the second World War, he returned to Fort Wayne but put the business under his son and devoted his full energies to painting. Bonsib was extremely prolific and his works are in numerous public and private collections throughout the state. The following information was submitted by a site visitor: Louis Bonsib (1892-1979) was born in Vincennes, Indiana, and received his BA degree from Indiana University in 1916. Although he was employed as an insurance salesman for most of his life, he later was awarded an honorary doctorate from Vincennes University in 1971. He was the president of the Fort Wayne Art School from 1948-1949 and widely exhibited in the Hoosier Salon. His paintings included impressionism and realism, and depicted landscapes of Brown County and scenes from Ogunquit, Maine.
