Born West Milton Ohio 1840. Died 1917 in Richmond, Indiana, where he lived for 30 years. He studied with his uncle Marcus Mote, W H Hillard and Barton Hayes. Mote was a member of the Art Institute of Philadelphia, and the Art Association of Richmond. He painted portraits and landscapes. Source: Art and Artists of Indiana by Burnet
