re: Mary Yandes Robinson

Mary Yandes Robinson was born in Milwaukee in 1864. She studied with Theodore C. Steele at the Indiana School of Art. Later, she enrolled at the Art Student League in New York, where she studied with William Merritt Chase, H. Siddons Mowbray, J. Carroll Beckwith, Frederick C. Yohn, and Rhoda Holmes. She worked primarily in oil and watercolor, and her work is in the permanent collection of the Indiana State Museum. In addition to painting, Mary also taught private art classes out of her home studio. She also wrote and illustrated several children's books, as well as provided illustrations for various kindergarten magazines. Source: Skirting the Issue, by Newton and Weiss
