Harry Engel Untitled Untitled Oil on Board Unsigned (authentication verso)
Harry Engel Honorable Bull Honorable Bull — This painting was featured in our weekly email on 5/5/17 along with the following gallery comments: Gallery Comments We're opening for First Friday tonight and have paired together two major works by Harry Engel. Engel was a professor of painting at Indiana University in Bloomington for 40 years and he's one of the few abstract painters from Indiana who showed and was collected nationally. He was in several of the Whitney Biennials hanging next to Pollock and de Kooning, ferchrissakes. Below are the respective works and associated info. We'll be open tonight from 5-8p and unlike last month (when I got suckered into celebrating my mother's 80th birthday), I'll be in residence! Hope to see you if you're out and about. The Engels are worth the price of admission. The copious amounts of drinks and snacks are just a bonus! Oil on Board Signed lower right

William Forsyth Sun Magic Sun Magic Shown in the 1926 Herron Annual Artists Exhibit (original tag, verso). This painting was featured in our weekly email on 7/31/13 along with the following gallery comments: This week’s painting of the moment (Sun Magic by William Forsyth) is a work with so much to recommend it and it’s deserving of a loving home. Forsyth was a member of the Hoosier Group and is one of Indiana’s best collected and most beloved historic artists. Sun Magic was shown in the 1926 Herron Annual Artists Exhibit; the original entry tag is affixed verso. The piece is housed in its original, art nouveau frame that was recently restored and re-gilded in 23K gold leaf. The painting is in flawless condition. It’s been through conservation and has no issues – paint is stable, no cracking or crazing and the signature is strong. This painting is representative of the more abstract impressionist work Forsyth was experimenting with in the 1920s. Sun Magic will be featured in Rachel Perry’s upcoming book on the artist: William J. Forsyth: The Life and Work of an Indiana Artist, published by IU Press and due out in February, 2014. -Curt Churchman, Oil on Board Signed lower right
